چکیده
Magos, L., and Cernik, A. A. (1969). Brit. J. industr. Med., 26, 144-149. A rapid method for estimating mercury in undigested biological samples. A method has been developed for estimating mercury in biological samples using an ultraviolet mercury detector, after liberating the mercury from the urine and other biological samples by a simple chemical method. The overall time for one estimation is less than two minutes, and no special skills are required to operate the technique. The principle of the method is that stannous chloride at high pH liberates mercury from sulphhydryl bonds and converts the liberated mercury into volatile metallic mercury which is subsequently estimated by an ultraviolet photometer. Stannous chloride is added to the acidified sample, and the presence of extra cysteine ensures that no appreciable amount of mercury is lost before the reaction is triggered by the addition of excess sodium hydroxide. The standard solution of mercury developed is stable for months and behaves in the reaction like urine, and, because of its stability, the instrument can be standardized with it frequently and conveniently.

Determining Total Mercury in Samples from the Persian Gulf and theCaspian Sea: Comparison of Dry Ash and Wet Extraction Mothods
Monitoring of mercury in environmental samples, with its proven toxicity on the food chain, requires sensitive and accurate analytical techniques. In this study, two methods for identification and quantification of total mercury in biological and sediment samples are compared: i) dry ash preparation and subsequent established procedures for Combustion Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, (AMA 254) ...
متن کاملAssessment of Mercury Bioaccumulation in Zebra Cichlid (Cichlasoma Nigrofasciatum) Exposed to Sublethal Concentrations of Permethrin
Background: Aquatic ecosystems are frequently subjected to contamination by toxic heavy metals and pesticides, yet very little is known about the influence of pesticides on bioaccumulation of heavy metals in aquatic organisms. Mercury is a toxic metal with no known biological benefit to organisms. Bioavailability of mercury in aquatic environments depends on biological and non-biological parame...
متن کاملDEVELOPMENT OF A RAPID AND SENSITIVE RADIOIMMUNOASSAY FOR MEASUREMENT OF AFLATOXIN B 1 IN BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES
Aflatoxin B I (AFB) isa well known hepatocarcinogen in several animal species and probably a causative agent in human hepatocellular carcinoma. Humans are exposed to AFB by ingesting contaminated food. Aflatoxin contamination encountered in human foods is usually at low levels which is difficult to measure by chromatographic methods. Therefore in the present study we have developed an immun...
متن کاملA Rapid and Sensitive Method for Determina-tion of Morphine in Saliva of Opium Addicts
Background: Saliva is an alternative biological matrix in drug testing. It has several advantages in comparison with other biological fluids such as blood and urine. Collection of saliva is simple, noninvasive and can be controlled under direct observation in drug abusers, or opium addicts. Methods: In the present study we report our experience with saliva collection, liquid-liquid extraction a...
متن کاملA modified method for the determination of organic mercury in biota [great cormorants (phalacrocorax carbo)] by advanced mercury analyzer
Background: Contagion of aquatic ecosystems to heavy metals especially mercury (Hg) has risen concerns about healthiness of marine organisms. Organic mercury compounds are highly toxic for animals, and its detection in various samples is frequently needed. In present study we have described a new method for measurement of organic mercury and total mercury concentration in great cormorants (ph...
